Holiday Tips: 10 Essential Things to do Before you go

  1. Check Passport Expiry

There is not much worse than realising the day before (or day of) your departure that your passport is close to expiry, or worse, expired! A last minute mad dash to the passport office is no fun for anyone. While most of us don’t remember to check our passports expiry and location in advance, it is well worth it. Go and do it now!

  1. Print/Scan Additional Copies of Important Documents

In case of emergencies, it’s good to have backup copies of all important documents, such as passport scans, travel insurance references, hotel confirmation and even essential contacts. Keep all the documents organised in a plastic folder.

  1. Travel Money

It is reported that thousands of tourists loose thousands of pounds each year, by failing to organise their travel money before they go away, and being charged extortionately to exchange money at airports and the like. Don’t be one of these people. Sort out your currency prior to leaving and do it with us - by post or on our APP AIRGO-FX - to ensure that you receive the most for your money and take advantage of our superior rates. We also have prepaid cards that you can order and load with currency before you go.

  1. Organise Transport to the Airport

You don’t want to be running around last minute trying to find a taxi for the airport! Unless you’re taking Uber, book your taxi in advance. Likewise, whether you are taking public transport or driving and parking at the airport, plan your journey before the date of departure and arrive early to be on the safe side.

  1. Check Luggage Conditions

Being held at check-in for an overweight bag is sure to dampen holiday spirits. Avoid this fate by weighing your luggage beforehand with a handheld digital luggage scale. Check your airline's policy on bag quantities and weights before flying. If you do need to book extra luggage allowance, do this in advance - charges at the airport can be hefty.

  1. Secure Your Home

Write a list to get organised with what you need to do before you leave, and prevent those pesky wonders of whether the gas was left on. Double check locked doors and windows, cancel milk and newspaper subscriptions and make sure someone is coming to feed the cat! Some use light timers so that the house is not continuously dark while they are away.

  1. Ensure you’ve Packed Everything you Need

It’s not fun arriving at the golden holiday destination and realising you’ve forgotten the family-size sun cream. Most things you can buy whilst away, but are much more expensive. Some things, like your favourite bikini, aren’t so replaceable. Make a packing list and ensure you bring everything you’ll need.

  1. Organise Pet Care

Don’t forget to sort out care for your furry pals before you leave. There are various companies and people that look after pets while you are on holiday, or alternatively, get someone to come round from time to time and feed.

  1. Get Travel Insurance

Research insurance deals and choose the most competitive. Travel insurance will protect you against anything that can go wrong whilst you’re away, including damage of luggage, medical charges or theft.

  1. Ring your Bank

Make sure you let your bank know that you are going away, where to, and how long for. Otherwise, card activity may be deemed as suspicious and your card cancelled. This is a pain when on holiday and ringing the bank from foreign countries not a measly feat!
